As Kenya marks 50 years since independence, the country and Kenyans are in jubilation as we celebrate the 12th of December, Jamhuri Day. It is the day Kenya attained its independence as a republic.

Eighty-year-old Joseph, sponsored in the CFCA aging program, is proud of Kenya and remembers the journey toward independence.

Now a CFCA scholar, Austine is realizing his dream of higher education.

I settled down in my seat on the bus and buckled my seatbelt, ready for the eight-hour drive to Kisumu City, home to one of our CFCA projects in Kenya.

As the bus made its way through the sometimes rough roads dotted with potholes, I thought about the one-and-a-half weeks I would spend interacting with CFCA families.

She talked about her role as a mothers group coordinator in Nairobi, and how mothers of sponsored children work hard to create a path to self-sufficiency by launching small businesses.
