Sponsored youth: ‘CFCA has given me more than an education’

How many students does it take to create a youth forum in India designed to help young people continue their higher education?

More than 350 sponsored youth and scholarship students in Delhi, India, recently participated in a CFCA youth forum designed to help them learn money-saving practices, leadership skills and public-speaking techniques.

Students deposit 50 rupees (about $1) of their own money into a savings account every time they meet.

The money, along with funds from CFCA, is put in an account and members are able to take out loans from the account to pay for their higher education expenses.

Some forum participants may apply for and receive scholarship grants, and others have the opportunity to take out school loans through CFCA.

Senior students provide personalized counseling and guide the younger members in their academic and career goals.

The youth forum gives sponsored students encouragement and support as they think about and plan for the future.

Pooja, a youth sponsored through CFCA, participated in the youth forum and shared her experiences with us!

My name is Pooja, and I am one of five children in my large family. A few years ago, my father was in an accident and both of his legs were damaged.

Soon thereafter, our financial situation became worse.

My brother works as a schoolteacher, and he took on the responsibility to take care of the family.

His salary is our main source of income.

CFCA sponsorship supported and encouraged me, and I will soon graduate with a bachelor of arts and pursue my teaching degree.

Without the support, I wouldn’t be able to complete my degree.

CFCA not only supported my education, but it is also helped me become a karate fighter.

Several years ago, I got a chance to participate in a national karate competition.

The entry fee was more than I could pay, and I didn’t think that I could participate.

Then, CFCA came forward and encouraged me to participate.

With that help I went for the tournament and won the award!

Winning the competition molded my career and boosted my hope to become a sportsperson.

My dream is to excel as a sportsperson and also to get a government job.

Since that day, I have participated in many other international and national tournaments and won many awards.

The youth forum is helpful because it gives us the financial help for our higher education, and I can also talk with senior students about choosing a course after my graduation.

I have not taken out a school loan yet, but it gives me confidence knowing that I have that option available through the CFCA youth forum.

It allows me to concentrate on education without worrying about the expenses.

I am also planning to take part in the India police selections. If I qualify in the selections I can join the police department.

I would like to express gratitude to my sponsor from the bottom of my heart. What I have achieved is because of my sponsor’s support.

Sponsor a youth today to help keep a dream of an education alive.
