Wisdom of the Ages: Savatri, 73, from India

CFCA sponsored elderly share life experiences and offer wise advice. Read about Savatri, a sponsored aging friend in Hyderabad, India!

Savatri is a 73-year-old widow in Hyderabad, India, living in a rented home with her only daughter, Girija.

Savatri was born in the year 1939 to her father, Lakshman, who worked in the Indian Army, and her mother, Adilakshmi, who passed away much too early at a young age.

After her mother’s passing, Savatri took on the responsibility of raising her younger siblings.

Her father struggled a lot to feed the family because of the costs with feeding and caring for a large family.

When Savatri was older, she married Venkatesh, and the couple had a little girl they named Girija.

Sadly, Venkatesh became ill and passed away when Girija was only 10 years old.

With no income, Savatri moved back to Hyderabad with Girija and started working in a church as a cook, where she was employed for 10 years.

Presently CFCA sponsorship is her only source of income. With the sponsorship benefits she can get groceries and pay monthly expenditures.

  1. I love to read a story and hear the prayer from a sincere heart. Savatri looks like a lovely woman, and one who is close to God. I dare to say radiates God’s love.

      1. I received your email. That was a quick response to my comment on my Savatri. Just so you know. I have not a computer in my home. I go online only on occasion. Great to be in touch, though. Arlene
