Mother of a sponsored child sews a successful future

Before her daughter joined CFCA, Shaheen knew how to sew, but did not have the equipment to do so. Through CFCA mothers groups, Shaheen gained confidence, friendship and a new sewing machine, which is helping to support her family.

We recently heard from our Hyderabad project in India about several mothers of sponsored children who are exemplifying the potential of families living in poverty. Here’s the story of Shaheen – enjoy!

When my daughter found a sponsor through CFCA, I also found help through my CFCA mothers group.

I know how to tailor clothing, but I didn’t have a sewing machine. When I took my first loan from my mothers group, I purchased a sewing machine and started sewing for people in our area.

The income I earn from my tailoring business helps me support my family.

After I repaid the first loan, I took out another loan and brought a bigger sewing machine to meet the demand of my customers.

I also used the mothers group loans to purchase another sewing machine, which I use to stitch special designs on the garments. With this specialty sewing machine, my income increased further.

Two years ago, my husband’s hand was badly fractured. We consulted doctors and had to get treatment for his injury.

The treatment was very expensive and did not fully restore his strength. Even after the treatment, he cannot lift anything heavy with his injured hand.

We faced a severe economic crisis after my husband’s accident.

I had to manage the family and take care of our four daughters with the income I received as a tailor, and it became difficult to pay back the group loan.

After a few months of hard work, however, I was able to repay the loan completely.

My husband realized that his injury prevents him from working outside and decided to open a shop selling costume jewelry.

We opened the shop with the help of another mothers group loan.

My husband works by purchasing the required items and managing the store, while I take the customers’ orders and do my tailoring work.

We are getting a good response at our shop, and we are planning to increase the quantity of jewelry and other items in the store.

CFCA has helped us start our journey for a better future and they continuously support us to achieve it. We are so thankful.
