We keep hearing wonderful stories from those of you who have logged into your online sponsorship account and used our eLetter feature to send an online letter to your sponsored friend.
One of the most frequently asked questions we have received since launching the eLetters in 2011 is “When can we send a photo with these?”
The answer is: Right now!
Here’s a step-by-step guide to sending your next eLetter with a photo attached:
- Go to the eLetters page at www.cfcausa.org/eLetter.
If this is your first time logging in, you’ll need to register your account first. See our step-by-step guide here.
Your†screen should look something like this (I’ve grayed out my sponsored child Victor’s middle and last names for privacy reasons):
If you have more than one sponsored child, you can use our dropdown menu to select the one you’ll write to first.
Choose a letter template and write your letter. (Your message is limited to 1,300 characters, including spaces.)
- To attach a photo.
On the right-hand side of the screen under Victor’s picture, do you notice the little camera icon with the words, “Attach a photo”? (We also have a red arrow pointing to it on the screenshot.)
Click on the green “BrowseÖ” button to browse to the file you want to upload, then follow the instructions to upload it.
NOTE: We have a limit of one photo per eLetter. The photo will be inserted into the eLetter once it’s made into a PDF.

Thanks to all at CFCA for adding this feature. I often insert a photo in my own computer generated letters to my sponsored child, but it is great to know that we can also do this in e-letters.
Thank you so much for adding photos to eLetters!!!! I have a hard time finding time to print pictures and get to the post office to mail letters, now I can just hop on my computer and keep in touch with my sponsored child. I have a 13 month old son and finally sent a picture of him to my sponsored child today thanks to this new feature. I’ll be able to keep in touch with my sponsored child so much easier now!

I just sent a letter to my “Child” and attached a photo. If it gets to him as I see it here, I will be greatful to the tech people for setting this up. It looks GREAT!!!

I love to see that this feature was added! I am curious though, will the picture be printed in color or in black and white?

I am so happy to know I can send a letter and picture by e-mail. We had not had a chance to send a card for Christmas, but we were able to write & send a photo today on Christmas. How long does it take for our sponsored child to receive an emailed letter?
Normal letter delivery takes about six to eight weeks for your friend to receive your letter. An eLetter is sent directly to the project, but it still needs to be printed, translated and delivered to your sponsored friendís home. So, there may be only a small noticeable difference in the time that it takes to arrive.
We know your sponsored friend will be very excited to receive a letter from you, even if it doesn’t arrive on Christmas Day. We hope this feature makes it easier for you to build a relationship with your sponsored friend.
